New departmental server now available!

The Department of Bacteriology now has an extra computing resource available to you!

This small server, which has been in the department for a while, has now been repurposed for research computing needs. It is most suited if you are getting started with bioinformatics work using the command line, or you want to analyze your small datasets. If your computing needs are beyond what your personal laptop can handle, but not quite large enough to learn how to use campus high-throughput computing resources yet, this might be a good option for you!

Eligibility: Researchers in any of the labs of faculty in the Department of Bacteriology

This is a Linux-based server, and people can connect to it using NetID, and can be accessed on and off campus directly from their laptops. We have pre-installed a number of commonly used bioinformatics software packages that can be used immediately, or people can make their own installs using conda. More information can be found in the guide.

We are just starting to roll this out, so if you have any questions or run into any issues, please let me know so we can improve our services. Thank you!
